How can we collectively redress some of the environmental, labour equity, and consumer behaviour/attitude problems facing the textile/ready-to-wear industry?
We've challenged ourselves to learn by doing here in Bangladesh. re/DRESS is a non-profit project focussing on positive solutions!
We plan to produce a responsibly sourced, responsibly made, super lightweight recycled-textile, four-piece capsule collection: long tunic, tunic/top, palazzo and tapered trousers. Designed to wear in heat and humidity, unisex, minimal and modest for all ages, sizes, draped, loose yet flattering fit. Practical with pockets. A ‘base’ for personalisation, (you bring the bling) in white + black, grey, khaki.
Our goal is to make the collection available (initially in Bangladesh only) early 2022, all proceeds to groups working to support garment workers or climate resilience in Bangladesh.
Fibers/Yarn: CYCLO - provides solutions to avoid valuable, dyed cotton from going to waste. CYCLO mechanically recycles textile waste from garment manufacturers in Bangladesh into new fibers and yarns, without using water, chemicals or dyes.
Weaving/Textile production: Momtex Expo Ltd. is an environmentally aware, ethical company, which is expanding their production of textiles from recycled yarns/fibres.
Both CYCLO and Momtex Expo Ltd have met the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), an international, voluntary standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled input and chain of custody. The goal of this standard is to increase the use of recycled materials.
